Memorial University's Summer Bridging Program
August 8 - September 2, 2022

The Summer Bridging Program has significantly changed in 2022 - please read carefully.

Any graduating high school student who passes all 5 required subjects for admission, but misses the MUN admission average by five per cent or less, is eligible to apply to the Summer Bridging Program. Upon successful completion of the Summer Bridging Program, the student will be awarded general admission to Memorial University and will receive a university-level credit (three credit hours).  If you have any questions pertaining to your final admissions average, contact the Office of the Registrar at 637 6298.

Applications will be accepted starting June 28, 2022 with a deadline of August 1, 2022.

To be eligible for the Summer Bridging Program, high school students must have a final admission average of between 65% and 69.9% AND have passed the 5 required subjects for admission.  For Newfoundland and Labrador students, admission average is calculated based upon:

  • Math 3200 or Math 3201 (or higher)
  • English 3201 (or higher),
  • Laboratory Science: Biology 3201, Chemistry 3202, Physics 3204, OR Earth Systems 3209 (or higher)
  • Social Studies or Modern Classical Language (at the 3000 level)
  • Elective - Two credits in any subject level at the 3000 level

Students should apply for admission to the program as soon as they learn that they will not meet (or are not likely to meet) Memorial's admission requirements.  Please note - students MUST have also applied for general admission to Memorial University for the Fall 2022 or Winter 2023 semester.

Program Delivery

In August 2022, the Summer Bridging Program will be offered in a hybrid method..  As much as possible, students are encouraged to attend sessions in-person (on campus) or synchronously online.  However, sessions will be recorded and added to the Brightspace shell for later viewing.

There is no specific program fee for the Summer Bridging Program.  Instead, students must register for the University 1010 course and pay all fees associated with that course.  Tuition for this course is $600 for Canadian students, plus any additional student fees that all undergraduate courses would be subjected to. Fees are payable on August 8, 2022 and can be paid through a variety of methods.  Please click here for payment options.

The Summer Bridging Program consists of two components:

  • Completion of the credit course University 1010 - classes begin on August 8, 2022
  • Attendance at weekly learning skills sessions, from August 8 - September 2

The Summer Bridging Program will provide students with instruction in academic skills that will increase their likelihood of success in university-level courses, including:

  • instruction and practice in the critical reading skills needed for reading university level textbooks
  • instruction and practice in the writing skills needed to produce well-formulated essays and research papers
  • instruction and practice in basic academic study skills such as note-taking, time management and preparation for examinations
  • introduction to the university library system and development of skills for effective use of library systems
  • introduction to career development and personal career exploration

Following successful completion of the Summer Bridging Program, students will:

  • Receive final admission to Memorial University (Grenfell Campus or St. John's Campus)
  • Obtain 3 credit hours for University 1010 on their Memorial University transcript
  • Be assigned an academic advisor who will assist them in their first full semester of study at Memorial University
