Grenfell Campus Sustainability Committee
The goal of the Sustainability Committee is to co-ordinate the diverse initiatives at Grenfell Campus and to bring together the various departments to discuss the campus's role as a leader in environmental innovation. The committee has currently identified three areas of priority: waste management, energy, and education and awareness. Most recently, the Sustainability Committee has focused on moving Grenfell Campus towards more sustainable forms of waste management practices. A student-led group, the Grenfell Waste Management Committee (GWMC), was formed to specifically address these issues.
There are currently 15 members on the Sustainability Committee, with representatives from the following departments:
- Environmental Policy Institute
- Environmental Studies
- Sustainable Resource Management
- Environmental Science
- Psychology
- Office of Research and Graduate Studies
| Facilities Management
Ferriss Hodgett Library
- Grenfell Campus Student Union

- Academic programming: We have several undergraduate and graduate programs that focus on sustainability.
- Bottled water ban: Bottled water is not sold on campus, but all of our tap water is safe and drinkable! Reusable bottles are available and refill stations are located around campus
- Community garden: An on-campus community garden is available for public use
- Composting: There is campus-wide composting in addition to three composters behind the Forestry Centre
- Default double-sided printing to cut back on the use of printing
- Energy audit (Honeywell): The university has updated infrastructure to reduce electricity use
- Paper recycling program: There are bins located all around campus devoted to recycling paper waste
- Paperless options: Grenfell is now encouraging paperless options for pay stubs, submission of electronic forms, and online resources
- Recycling: There is multi-stream recycling available campus-wide
- Research: A diverse group of staff, faculty and students engaging in sustainability and climate-change oriented research.
- Sustainability audit: An audit will be conducted on the different waste streams to determine waste practices that need to be improved
