Audio visual (AV) and multimedia equipment around campus is the responsibility of the ITS department and its multimedia professionals.
Requests for assistance, training, or support must be put through the ITS Service Desk. Following are many ways the Audio Visual equipment is used on campus,
All lecture theatres, classrooms and computer labs throughout campus are equipped with the latest in Classroom Technology to aid in the delivery of course curriculum. Each classroom, at a minimum, has an LCD or LED HD Projector, automated 8' or 10' screens, Windows and/or MAC Instructor PC, complete audio system, DVD/VHS players, as well as guest inputs for VGA Signals, 1/4" Audio, and wired network access. This classroom technology is all controlled by an Extron interface control panel located at the instructors podium.
Along with our multimedia enriched classrooms, there are also multiple computer labs on campus. AS202, AS3003, and AS3005 are outfitted with MS Windows based ‘All in One’ HP computers, AS3009 is the MAC lab, and AS364 is the Multimedia Language Lab. Each lab computer come with a complement of pre-installed software including MS Office, SPSS, AutoCAD, MiniTab, Mathematica, ARC-GIS (AS3005) and CAN8 (AS364).
Enhanced Video Conferencing services are available. Basic video Conferences can be held through Skype or Skype for Business (Lync), and more involved, large room/multiple display video conferences can be arranged. Grenfell Campus primarily uses Polycom Video Conferencing technology for point to point meetings and more advanced conference delivery. Grenfell also has the ability to host a ‘mixed platform’ video conference, allowing external users to connect to the same conference through phone, web browser or other video conference system.
Distance education / lecture capture
Certain rooms on campus are designed to deliver or receive curriculum via Distance Education. AS2026, is equipped with high quality wired and wireless microphones, a lecture capture appliance and HD Camera configured to deliver, record or stream classes to D2L for distance education courses. AS326 is a dual-purpose room, equipped to deliver or receive of distance classes. On-campus instructors can deliver curriculum from the room to external sites via Polycom. Two large LED TVs allow the instructor in the room to see the other sites as well as the content that he/she is delivering to them. Alternatively, these two monitors can be used to receive course delivery from an off-site instructor.
Whether it be a PA system for small groups, or large scale special events or conferences requiring complete multimedia support, the ITS Department at Grenfell has the knowledge and equipment to assist you.
The multimedia specialists of the ITS department can provide Live Streaming services. If you have a special event or class on-campus that you would like to have live streamed to the internet for external viewing, contact the ITS Service Desk with the details.
