Welcome to Grenfell Campus! We invite you to meet our university's senior administrators as well as Graduate Officers, staff and fellow students. We look forward to learning how we can best serve your needs while you start your masters at Grenfell.
This workshop will provide students an overview of various upcoming funding and scholarship opportunities available in the Fall 2020 semester. These include Tri-Council (SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR) student scholarships, and Memorial University's Named Graduate Scholarships application (among others). Participants will hear from a Post-doctoral fellow and current PhD student, both of whom have been successful in securing Tri-Council funding. The goal of this workshop is to share specific information and criteria about financial aid available to Grenfell graduate students and will share useful advice in crafting a strong scholarship application. Join Dr. Paul Foley (MAEP) and Dr. Mumtaz Cheema (BEAS) to learn about pertinent information related to your program of study.
In this session students will learn about the definitions of culture, distinguishing between generalizations and stereotypes, intersections of culture and how it relates to personal identity. We'll review visible and invisible constructs of culture, dimensions of cultural difference and how these cultural differences may factor into group work and your own professional experiences as a graduate student. Intercultural competencies are skills, knowledge and attributes that are important and valuable in culturally diverse environments.
This workshop will provide students with an overview of Memorial University's Sexual Harassment Office – through the use of videos, scenarios and a PowerPoint presentation, the session will cover the Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault policy, as well as the accompanying University Wide Procedures, including key definitions of consent, bystander intervention, sexual assault and sexual harassment; this interactive and engaging session will also explain and reiterate how we, as a university community, have a shared responsibility in the prevention of sexual harassment and sexual assault. Join Debbie Lindahl, Sexual Harassment Coordinator, as we open the conversation about sexual harassment and sexual assault.
Take the opportunity to get to know what the library has to offer you. Join Crystal Rose, Head, Public Services, Grenfell Library as she will demonstrate how to use the library to best enhance your research and what services are available as we teach remotely.
Take this opportunity to learn from others who have attended Grenfell for their master's. Learn about the opportunities they had, the challenges they faced, and outcomes they have achieved because of it. Current students and alumni will share their experiences with you and answer any questions you might have about navigating your master's program. This is a great opportunity to network and to start thinking about what it is you will need to thrive during your master's.
The many facets of academic integrity will shape your graduate student career and beyond. This mandatory session will provide you with the academic expectations placed upon you as a student of Grenfell.
Get to know your peers from a virtual setting. Without being able to be on campus and socialize with your fellow classmates, it's important that we all still feel that we have a community of people around us. Also, it's an age-old tradition to have grocery bingo during orientation, but since that isn't possible this year, we are bringing you online bingo. Take this opportunity to get to know your colleagues and have a bit of fun.
