Graduate Student Employment Opportunities

There are several types of employment opportunities available at Grenfell Campus. To be employed as a graduate assistant at Grenfell Campus, students must be registered full-time in a graduate program at Memorial. The hiring of full-time graduate students is to be administered as per the appointment process set forward in Article 12 of the Collective Agreement for the Teaching Assistants' Union. There are also part-time opportunities to be employed through HR Classified positions. See below for more information about these opportunities.

1. Graduate Assistantships (TAs and RAs) linked to a student’s initial offer and program of study that are required as part of the Grenfell Campus portion of a student’s funding package. These positions are advertised each semester. Faculty members must post opportunities and students must apply for these TA and RA positions.

  1. Positions provided by faculty members (through their research funding) or by an academic or non-academic unit on campus that are in addition to GAships noted in a student’s initial offer of acceptance. A Grenfell Graduate Employment Contract must be completed and submitted to Nadia Simmons, senior secretary, Graduate Studies, nsimmons@grenfell.mun.ca. These can be advertised here, although posting is not a requirement for GAships funded through faculty research grants.

  2. Human Resources Classified Positions - Part-time graduate students are ineligible for GAs but can be hired in classified positions and are paid a Classified Rate in accordance with the existing job evaluation system through Grenfell's HR Office. Units employing graduate students at a Classified Rate must access the appropriate form through the my.mun.ca portal (links also below). If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Edison, Grenfell HR, kedison@grenfell.mun.ca

Full-time graduate students can change their status to part-time in order to be eligible for full-time employment. Application to change status should be submitted to Nadia Simmons, nsimmons@grenfell.mun.ca
