Picturing Research

Picturing Research at Grenfell Campus

  • A Research Photo Competition for Research Week 2023
  • Open to Grenfell Campus students, faculty, and staff.
  • Deadline for submissions is November 10

We use photography as an integral part of our research and have found it to be particularly effective in communicating our results to a broad audience in an accessible manner. We are excited to organize and host this opportunity to see how our colleagues and students “picture” their scholarly work through the lens of a camera. Thank you for considering this invitation to share and promote your research.

Sonya & Jennifer

What does your research look like? Capture your research with a photograph and brief description to showcase your scholarly work.

A. The competition is open to Grenfell Campus students, faculty, and staff. Entrants may submit up to 3 photographs. Photographs may illustrate

  • the researchers’ experiences in the field (e.g., data collection)

  • the focus/subject of the research; what it’s all about

  • the impact the research has had or may have

B. Send your submissions to scorbin@grenfell.mun.ca . Be sure to include a title, an interesting and informative description, including any funding information (max 120 words/900 characters), and your photograph as a JPG file.

C. Photographs will be displayed at Grenfell Campus during Research Week, November 20-24, 2023.

The winning entry will be announced on November 24 and will be chosen by a panel of judges using the following criteria:

  1. Degree to which the photograph illustrates the scholarly work

  2. Clarity of the written description and title in describing the research.

  3. Creativity and aesthetic appeal of the photograph

Entrants must have taken the photograph, own all rights to the photograph, and, if there are any people in the photograph, consent must have been obtained from any one who could be identified in the photograph.
