Community
We are very much a part of the local community in Norris Point and Gros Morne as a whole. As part of Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, we are well placed to bridge the gap between academia and communities around Bonne Bay and Gros Morne through research and outreach.
Long before the current buildings were built in 2002, Memorial faculty, staff, and students have been cleaning up the beaches of Gros Morne, particularly at Wild Cove and Gadds Harbour. We currently have annual cleanups on World Oceans Day and Canada Day.
Wild Cove is what is known as a storm beach, somewhere that collects ocean debris every year with the help of the winter storms. We usually manage to fill the Bonne Bay Aquarium & Research Station van with plastic and metal debris.
